Bacteria (Two Meadows Meet In Dust)

BODY, BODY, BACTERIA, AGAR, ACYRLIC

Bacteria from the bodies of two lovers were cultured in isolated chambers, then placed in a shared habitat.

Two acrylic environments house petri dishes designed as portraits of each individual, respectively. Signatures of bacteria from the blood, saliva, skin and cum taken from either body may be surveilled in their sovereign spaces. In a third acrylic chamber all bacterial samples are grown together. Here compatibility is calculated on the level of the microscopic.

The default architecture of visibility and invisibility designated by transparent acrylic calls into question the necessity of visible presence in performance. Two bodies act on three stages — and yet they are fragmented, displaced, magnified and interrogated across space and time. As a time-based sculpture the piece asks viewers to have faith, despite the speculative nature of the play.
